Chemins de traverse

Ellande Jaureguiberry & Camille Juthier & Leticia Martínez Pérez

from 22 to 29 April 2021

Espace Voltaire

Chemins de Traverse is an exhibition conceived by Lena Peyrard as a journey and an immersion that allow us to re-enchant our world. It brings together eight artists, including Ellande Jaureguiberry and Leticia Martínez Pérez, two artists in residency at the Cité internationale des arts, and Camille Juthier, previously in residency.

Long before the advent of writing, the tale is still considered one of the oldest narrative motifs, along with ancient mythologies. A sub-category of the genre, the marvellous tale is born of the encounter between the human world, with its animal, vegetable and mineral environment, and the Other World, that of the implausible, the supernatural and the fairy tale.

The "Chemins de Traverse" exhibition is an invitation to the artists presented to explore the theme of the tale and its various evocations. Drawings, sculptures, videos, photographs and installations all contribute to creating a chimerical panorama that unfolds like a modern tale where the story is lived and explored.

In the silence of the works, the murmur of the intimate fictions that are woven in them rises. A whisper that recalls the origin of the tale, transmitted by word of mouth, to the point of transforming the story itself over the course of time and regions. From this oral tradition, Chemins de Traverse retains a shifting and multiplied narrative, like the eight worlds highlighted by the artists. At the turn of a kaleidoscopic flower or a luminescent insect, the visitor is invited to explore fantastic and mysterious landscapes evoking metamorphosis. As many landscapes as fictions, therefore, in which progress is made in hushed tones, carried by our imagination...
