Atelier 8402 – Cité internationale des arts

"During my stay at the Cité internationale des arts, I made paintings and sculptures from textiles that I acquired in Paris.

My original materials are often photographs or fabrics and they are at the origin of my process. Sometimes I affix the original material behind translucent fabrics on frames, creating a screen on which I can see through and work with paint. At other times, I tear it up and scratch it, or remodel it as a barrier in space. Rather than considering my work as photography, painting or sculpture, I develop each piece based on the fluidity between the materials.

The purpose of this residency is to explore the possibilities of my work outside the context of the exhibition space."

Martine Poppe (Norway) is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts through the Ingrid Lindbäck Langaards Foundation programme.

She presents her open studio in collaboration with Stian Ådlandsvik.
