Launched in 2017, the meetings of the Alliance française Paris Île-de-France give a voice to authors (directors, comic strip writers, writers...) from elsewhere who have chosen to express themselves in French.
For this get-together, meet Ryoko Sekiguchi.
Ryoko Sekiguchi was born in 1970 in Tokyo. She wrote poetry from a very young age and at 18 she received the Cahiers de la poésie contemporaine prize.
Since 1997, she has lived in Paris where she studied art history at the Sorbonne. She also holds a PhD in comparative literature and cultural studies from Tokyo University. She translates her own poems as well as the texts of classical and contemporary Japanese poets in French magazines (If, Po&sie, Action Poétique, Dédale, racket). It is also translated into Korean and Arabic in anthologies.
She is considered one of the new voices of contemporary Japanese poetry through her work on structure and form. His poems have been translated into English, Korean, Swedish and Arabic. Ryoko Sekiguchi has been invited to read in many renowned places such as the Centre Pompidou, the Maison des Ecrivains, the New York Library and the University of San Francisco. Ryoko Sekiguchi currently teaches at INALCO, the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations.
She has been writing in French since 2003. Daughter of a cook, she shares a passion for cooking as much as for cookbooks or literature.
