Mark Farina

Lutetia 21 Paris

From April 18 to 20, 2019, at 6 pm

studio 5 - Cité internationale des arts

To celebrate Earth Day, Mark Farina is inspired by the life and discoveries of the European artist who became an astronomer Hermann Goldschmidt.

Hermann Goldschmidt wrote a history of painting commissioned in 1847 by the court of King Louis-Philippe I of France. He went to foreign museums to make portraits for the Versailles exhibition, before devoting himself fully to astronomy. His fascination for observing nature and celestial phenomena led him to discover, name and record 14 asteroids in 12 years.

During his open studio, Mark Farina will present his project based on a series of paintings of Goldschmidt's 14 registered asteroids, accompanied by a selection of multimedia and ephemeral works. This project is inspired by Goldschmidt's artistic interpretation of the celestial bodies and his history of painting, while considering the important places and mythologies of Paris and its surroundings.

Mark Farina (United States) is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts through the program of the Otis College of Art & Design- Los Angeles and the École nationale supérieure d'arts de Paris Cergy.
