Atelier 8317 - Cité internationale des arts

A painter and collage artist, Don Crow has received numerous awards, including the Pollak Prize for Excellence in Visual Arts. Crow holds a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from VCU, has taught at VCU in Richmond and Doha, Qatar, and has worked as a guest artist at the Oregon College of Art and Design in Portland.

Don Crow's fragile paper collages, large digital prints and abstract paintings draw attention to objects as obvious constructions and invisible processes. As part of his mixed media projects, Don Crow has studied photography and laser-engraved surfaces to explore the tensions between mutity and expressiveness as surfaces and images become subsumed by time, memory and digital recordings. Recent paintings highlight mysteries and textures with ambiguous relationships between the surface and the ground, the applied or painted surface, the deliberate mark or the accidental folding.

Don Crow (United States) is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts via the program of the University of Virginia.
