Andrea van der Straeten

… how the light gets in

Atelier 8402 – Cité internationale des arts

The artist conceives her works as a kind of systemic intervention; she analyses the media as photography in the same way as she is interested in the processes, procedures and functional links of art itself.

She imagines her works in reference to a history that manifests itself at specific moments in history. Its reference space is composed of a wide range of topics, including women's history and the evolution of the notion of gender over time, political events, local sources. This artistic referencing and appropriation is a way of deconstructing history in a specific narrative form.

At the end of her three-month residency at the Cité internationale des arts, she is presenting two photographic projects, which are still in progress.

Andrea van der Straeten (Austria) is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts through the program of the Division of Arts and Culture of the Austrian Federal Chancellery.
