An event organized with

As part of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2022

In collaboration with

The Cité internationale des arts and On the Move regularly join forces to organize events that provide people with the opportunity to talk about and reflect on the questions of mobility and creativity. Two discussions focusing on mobility in Europe and the World have been organized as part of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union 2022.

The second discussion, in collaboration with The Green Room, is a twofold public discussion about the relationship between artistic mobility and environmental sustainability moderated by Dea Vidović, Director of Kultura Nova Foundation in Croatia (interpreting FR/EN on site).

The program

• 2:15 - 2:45 pm: Arrival and welcome

• 2:45 - 3 pm: Introduction words by Cité internationale des arts, On the Move and The Green Room

• 3 - 4:30 pm : Roundtable #1 - The possibilities of contextualisation

The question of greening mobilities in the arts and cultural sector has never been so present and vivid since the beginning of the pandemic with the risk, through the proposed solutions, to exacerbate tensions, power relations, and to increase inequalities between those who have access to more sustainable means of transportation, ‘green’ funding incentives and those who don’t.

How to learn from this period to reinvent our models of creation, production, dissemination based on values of fairness, social justice and solidarity? How can we support more artists’ mobility but differently? How can we "do better" to respond to the climate emergency while taking into account the specificities of different contexts?

This session does not aim to bring one solution but forms of experimentation, and sometimes failures from which we can learn to address those issues in a more open and flexible ecosystem.

With:

→ Selim Ben Safia, Choreographer, Tunisia (representative of the ‘Manifesto for the mobility of artists and culture professionals in the Mediterranean and worldwide’ initiated by the Roberto Cimetta Fund);

→ Annabel Guérédrat,  Choreographer, dancer, performer, researcher, ‘bruja’ and co-founder of the International Festival of Performance Art @FIAP Martinique; former artist-in-residency at Cité internationale des arts;

→ Mutaz Abdulrahman, Project leader of the Guan Eden project, Goethe-Institut, Irak;

→ Karolina Juzwa, Coordinator the Wytwórnia Foundation, manager of the Wytwórnia venue in Lodz and co-leader of the European Project Footprints, Poland.

• 4:30 - 5 pm : Break

• 5 - 6:30 pm : Roundtable #2 - Focus on residencies, exhibitions and projects around (no)-mobility’s challenges

In the same spirit as the first roundtable, the idea of this exchange is to share different experiences and perspectives on the subject, more than to provide one only-way to address the issues of mobility, (en)forced mobility or no-mobility with regards to artistic practices.

To what extent can exhibitions and residencies reflect on the very notion of mobilities / environmental sustainability, both in terms of contents and sustainable formats? How to make the travel part of the research, experimentation and artistic work? How to consider exchange / exhibitions in the context of (en)forced mobility or impossible mobilities?

With:

→ Christophe Gay, Co-director of the Forum Vies Mobiles, France;

→ Elena Mazzi, Artist, Italy;

→ Alona Karavai, Co-founder of the residency house Khata-Maysternya, of the gallery Asortymentna kimnata and of the agency for art projects proto produkciia, Ukraine;

→ Alice Bonnot, Founder and Director of Villa Villa, Portugal / United Kingdom.

• 6:30 - 7:30 pm : An hour of friendly discussion
