Hors Pistes Festival 2021

from 01 to 14 February 2021

En ligne | Online - Centre Pompidou

The Centre Pompidou is organizing the 16th edition of its Hors Pistes festival, which aims to highlight important current issues through contemporary art. This edition is dedicated to exploring all forms of the moving image, and to meet those who make it the subject of their creation, thought and writing. This two-week event invites filmmakers, artists and researchers to alert the eyes and glimpse other futures.

As part of Hors Pistes, Matières d'images is an exhibition that brings together the contemporary works of visual artists and videographers in a game of confrontations between silver photography and digital images tracking the signs of the future in the mutations of the landscape, illuminated by the giant fires that amateur films document in many parts of the world. Among the artists presented, discover the work of Sabrina Ratté, in residency at the Cité internationale des arts.

Sabrina Ratté's artistic practice is plural and multimedia. Centered around the digital image, it invests the field of photography, analog video, 3D animation, virtual reality and performance.

Her works borrow from an aesthetic of the organic and technological where human bodies as animal flesh seem to be constantly confronted with the rigidity of architectural lines, the artificialization of natural landscapes and the possibility of bionic hybridization.

Inspired by the writings of Donna J. Haraway, Ursula K. Le Guin and Greg Egan, the Floralia video series plunges us into a speculative future where samples of plant species that have disappeared are preserved and displayed in a virtual archive.

Transformed by the effect of interferences caused by the memory of plants, this ecosystem reveals the traces of a past that continues to haunt the place.

Sabrina Ratté (Canada) is recipient of the Cité internationale des arts TRAME residency program.
