Hélène Duret

Hélène Duret is a French clarinetist, improviser and composer, born in Orange in 1988. She has also practiced theater, cinema, and dance.

Currently, Hélène Duret focuses her artistic activity on musical composition, which she links to the exploration of improvisation, instrumental or sung, and the perception of sound as a palpable texture: thick, thin, complex, smooth, or colored. For this, she refers to the sensations that painting and visual art provide.

Between Belgium and France since 2013, Hélène Duret develops her unifying spirit by bringing together artists from different worlds, all driven by the same creative energy, from which a rich palette of projects will emerge.

In 2021/2022, Hélène Duret is laureate of Jazz Migration #7 with the trio Suzanne, integrates the Tricollectif with her trio FUR, releases the second album of her quintet Synestet with the Belgian label Igloo records, and begins her residency at the Cité internationale des arts where she develops her musical creations and turns to water as her primary source of inspiration.
