Kimya is a word whose roots date back thousands of years and which resonates in different cultures across time. In the Arab world, Iran, Azerbaijan and Greece, kimya means “alchemy”. An alchemist was a scientist on a quest to find the formula for turning metal into gold and it is this metaphor that the ensemble explore in its music, carrying us away to unexplored worlds in a mix of different sounds born out of the encounter between a santur and a viola and the meeting of East and West.
Olivier Marin (France) is a recipient of the Cité internationale des arts Music Committee. He is joined by Amir Amiri (santur), Roméo Monteiro (percussion) and Myrtille Hetzel (cello) for this concert.
