INTERVIEW

You are the 2021 recipient of the Paris Prize of Ensba Lyon, which allowed you to benefit from a live-in studio at the Cité internationale des arts and a work grant. What did this residency bring you?

"This residency is an opportunity for me to continue the plastic research work I started at Ensba Lyon in an extremely serene and joyful way. The end of school is a special moment with its share of necessary questions, this residency is a precious and privileged time to answer them. The surface of the live-in studio as well as its central position also allow me to think of more generous projects and more open to various views and collaborations."

What projects are you working on during your residency at the Cité internationale des arts?

"I worked on several projects of quite different nature! In particular, a performance called the Bal des Timides, for which I made about twenty costumes and worked with about ten performers. I was also able to record an album and play live at the Point Éphémère with my musical project, Mercure et Chrome, which I am doing with my brother, Florian.

All this while always keeping, in the background, my studio photography practice that I was able to deepen by working in a more playful and performative way with the models."

What are your future projects?

"I am currently preparing a group exhibition as part of the Kiosques Volants at the Villa Belleville and I am preparing in collaboration with Luna Duchaufour-Lawrance, who graduated from Ensad, an edition of erotic photographs.

I intend to take advantage of this second part of the year to complete the archiving of previous projects and prepare my departure to Brussels."

BIOGRAPHY

Camille Pautasso was born in 1996. She will graduate from a DNSEP at Ensba Lyon in 2021.

With the practice of several mediums such as photography, costume and set design and performance, she studies bodies in play, in a state of performance. Using humor and burlesque as tools, her pieces resemble grotesque tableaux where clownish characters seem to constantly ask themselves the question "how to be with others?

Recipient of the Prix de Paris in 2021, she is currently in residency at the Cité internationale des arts.
