The Cité internationale des arts, the Mucem and the Institut français in Gaza have joined forces to organize an event that will be an opportunity to exchange on the Musée des Nuages SAHAB, a project elaborated by the HAWAF collective. The collective, composed of Mohamed Abusal, Sondos Al-Nakhala, Mohamed Bourouissa and Salman Nawati will be presenting the project during a discussion with anthropologist Marion Slitine.

The HAWAF collective have imagined a museum that presents the possibilities for Gaza, a territory under embargo and devoid of a contemporary art museum, a museum that stimulates the imagination and provides a vision of the future. The Musée des Nuages SAHAB will be accessible on the cloud through a digital platform and will outline the history of Gaza and its future. The cloud provides a gateway to the outside world that counters efforts to ostracize this territory, whereas the museum’s use of virtual reality technology allows everyone to learn about the heritage, identity and culture of Gaza.

As an extension of this event, a second gathering will take place on June 1st, 2022 at the Mucem in Marseille to talk about the SAHAB museum and how it relates to other artistic and museum creations that borrow from fiction, using the latter’s potential to evoke possibilities and hold up a mirror to the present. The HAWAF collective will exchange on the subject with Thomas Bellinck, Bochra Triki, Makan Fofana, Giorgio De Finis, Mounir Ayache, Rania Stephan, Youness Atbane, Joan Grandjean, Emmanuel Grimaud, Julien Wacquez, Judith Dehail, Julie Kretzchmar, Elodie Bouffard, Vanessa Brito and Rasha Salti.

Mohamed Abusal is in residency as part of the Institut français program.
