Open Studios: Work in Slow Motion

Every Wednesday, 6/9pm

Cité internationale des arts

Open Studios: Work in Slow Motion is a weekly tour of the studios of a selection of our artists in residency. This event is at the heart of everything we do at the Cité internationale des arts, a place where artists from different generations and working in different disciplines come from all over the world to live, work and carry out research.

From 6 to 9 pm every Wednesday, the public is invited to visit the studios of artists in residence and discover their work in progress.

The pandemic has transformed social, environmental, cultural and political landscapes all over the world and highlighted the inequalities in contemporary society. In the field of culture, the consequences of this unprecedented crisis are becoming apparent and new ways of doing and taking action are emerging.

Artistic, curatorial and institutional practices are more than ever at the forefront of this new ethical, societal and environmental dynamic. In this context, the artist residency takes on a new dimension by its sustainable and non event-related character. It can be seen today as one of the possible answers to the crisis: a residency is both an everyday moment and a unique encounter. It comprises a time of opening to others, but also a time for taking things more slowly away from the constraints of day-to-day life that allows artists to question and transform their practice.

Every Wednesday at the Cité internationale des arts, Open Studios: Work in Slow Motion is the reflection of this unique situation.
