Aram Abbas

Aram Abbas was born in Paris, France where he currently lives and works. He was raised in Damascus, Syria, where he lived until 2012.

Trained in music, fine arts and film, Aram Abbas is a multidisciplinary artist working with sound, performance and music composition. He also frequently takes part in collective initiatives in visual arts, theatre, dance and music. As an exiled composer and musician, Aram Abbas experiences a symbolic and personal exile from the field of music to the field of visual arts, what he calls “music exile”. His practice approaches remnants from the past and the process of identities in a permanent state of exile.

Through sound pieces, performances and music experiments, his practice deals with techniques that merge instrumental and non-instrumental sound experiences, music compositions and performative gestures. By twisting initial disciplines, he develops projects open to news forms of staging and recording. Harsh, unstructured, blasting and eerie, Aram Abbas’s music mixes the experimental, the abstract and the absurd in an odd and dramatic universe. His music features the use of unpredictable song formats along with a wide range of eclectic genres.

His work has been shown internationally in art institutions, galleries, concert venues, and alternative spaces.
