The Cité internationale des arts is putting into place a special programme to host afghan artists

Faithful to its values of hospitality and its role as a residential centre for artists, the Cité internationale des arts is welcoming Afghan artists from September 2021.
Thanks to funding from the French Ministry of Culture, this programme will provide them with a place to live and work in Paris.

"The Cité internationale des arts has a tradition of hospitality. It is a place where people are made welcome and it is therefore only natural for the foundation to open its doors to Afghan artists and culture professionals and all the more so at this particular moment in time.”

Henri Loyrette, President & Bénédicte Alliot, Director General

The Cité internationale des arts in the heart of Paris – a private foundation recognised as a public interest organisation – organises residencies for artists and culture professionals from every discipline, providing a place where they can work on their creative projects or carry out research. It is a place of freedom where residents of different origins and backgrounds can create, exchange and work together.

The Cité internationale des arts has been developing artist-in-residency programmes since 1965 at its two sites in the Marais and Montmartre. It hosts more than 300 artists and culture professionals from every generation and nationality. Several of these residency programmes are specifically aimed at artists at risk, who are either refugees, in exile, or who cannot pursue their creative activity in their home country.
