You open a box... is a collection of performances and exhibitions about the community in times of social distancing.

It brings together German-speaking artists in residence at the Cité internationale des arts, who meet regularly for informal dinners and exchanges. Spectators of the radical changes that the strikes at the end of 2019 and the Covid-19 epidemic are causing to public spaces in Paris, they decide to collaborate on the project You open a box...

Through a bookstore box created for this project, they activate their projects and travelling exhibitions.

The day before the closure of all public spaces, the collective inaugurates the project by installing the box along the banks of the Seine.

On April 5th, a second activation of the box is realized and diffused from the courtyard of the Cité internationale des arts. By drawing circles of a diameter in accordance with the recommendations of social distancing, the group of artists organizes a common dinner under the watchful eye of a camera.

These rituals open a series of upcoming exhibitions and personal or collective performances, which will take place in Paris and elsewhere, using the bookseller's box as a shared mobile exhibition space.
