The dual "TRAME" programme is supported by the Ministry of Culture.

The COVID 19 crisis has changed the conditions for international mobility. Faced with this situation, the Cité internationale des arts is adapting its programs to pursue its mission of welcoming and supporting creators from around the world and from all disciplines.

In 2020, the Cité internationale des arts launched the "TRAME "* program for French-speaking artists from around the world. More than 400 applications were received and 10 recipients were selected by a jury to carry out residencies in the spring and fall of 2020. The health crisis and the resulting restrictions on mobility have disrupted the programme's schedule: the recipients will be welcomed between January and March 2021.

As artists and cultural professionals are particularly affected by the current crisis, and in order to continue its support for Francophone creators in all disciplines as part of its actions as a reference centre for Francophone creation, the Cité internationale des arts is evolving its action and launching an exceptional edition of the "TRAME" program for the fall of 2020.

This edition is aimed at Francophone artists of all nationalities, present only in France. Five applications will be selected for a residency in the fall of 2020 (October-December).

*The "TRAME" programme is part of the new actions carried out since 2019 by the Cité internationale des arts, designated as a reference centre for francophone creation by the Ministry of Culture alongside La Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon - Centre national des écritures du spectacle and Les Francophonies - Des écritures à la scène in Limoges.

The Cité internationale des arts

The Cité internationale des arts, which was founded in 1965, is a residence center that has welcomed more than 25,000 artists since its creation. Its ideal location in the heart of Paris and its commitment to place the artist at the heart of the project mean that the Cité internationale des arts is a key player on the Parisian and international art scene.

Born from the desire to bring artists from all over the world together and gather all disciplines under the same roof, this ambitious project gives the Cité internationale des arts a unique status that fosters encounters, artistic crossovers and creativity.

Every year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes over 1,000 artists from 90 different countries in more than 300 studios in the Marais and Montmartre districts of central Paris.

Based on the artistic projects of residents, artists and/or exhibition curators, the Cité internationale des arts implements a multidisciplinary cultural program in its various spaces: the Galerie (a 525 m2 exhibition space), the Corridor, the Auditorium (128 seats), the Petite Galerie, as well as through "open-studio days". The Cité internationale des arts also supports residents’ "fringe events and projects" and helps bring them into contact with professionals.

Residents can also take French lessons, work in shared studios (engraving or silkscreen printing workshops) and use the pottery kiln. Partnerships with other institutions in Paris and Ile-de-France also enable residents to develop their practices outside the walls of the Cité internationale des arts.

The residency

This program offers the same hosting conditions as those provided for under TRAME :

• The provision of a living-studio for a period of 3 months (October-December 2020);
• A living grant of 800 euros per month;
• Tailor-made support. It is also anchored at the heart of the life, activities and networks of the Cité internationale des arts and its 326 residents of all disciplines, generations and nationalities.

Eligibility and selection criteria

"TRAME" is a residency program for French artists of all nationalities present in France. It is open to all artistic disciplines, with no age limit.

The artist must:

• Be involved in professional life and testify to an artistic practice for at least 5 years;

• Speak French;

• Be available throughout the residence, uninterruptedly over the proposed three-month period;

• Participate in the various professional meetings and other meetings organized by the Cité internationale des arts.

In addition to assessing the candidate's professional background, the jury members pay particular attention to the quality of the project, the necessity of the stay in Paris, the work protocol envisaged and the contacts already established or desired.

A committee made up of qualified personalities studies all the applications and selects the recipients of the "TRAME" program.
