June Balthazard

Born in 1991 in France, June Balthazard studied at the Haute École d'art et de design (HEAD) in Geneva in the Cinema/Cinéma du réel department. She also completed a post-graduate degree at Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains, where she directed two documentaries: La Rivière Tanier and Le baiser du cature

Her work mixes heterogeneous elements. In particular, she confronts the documentary with forms more distant from reality, which do not betray it, but on the contrary enlighten it, transfigure it. In this sense, her movies are imbued with a magical realism.

June Balthazard's work has been shown at international festivals such as: Busan International Short Film Festival in South Korea, Go Short in the Netherlands, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France, RIDM in Canada and Visions du réel in Switzerland, where she received the Opening Scenes Award in 2018.
