Let’s draw to music! - A synesthetic workshop

Cité internationale des arts

Have you ever been attracted to music?

The concept of rhythm appears in almost all artistic disciplines as something intrinsically human: we have evolved to recognize patterns in almost everything we do, and we really enjoy moving our bodies towards them.

This workshop aims to explore the direct relationship between the concept of musical rhythm and visual rhythm in an empirical and entertaining way. Through many exercises, we will find out how to think of the act of drawing as a performance (a choreography, even!), and how best to translate the sound into lines, dots and compositions. Together, we could find a common rhythmic language between the two arts.

Some materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own art supplies (markers, pens or pencils and paper, no matter what you feel comfortable with).

Federico Mozzi is an illustrator and graphic designer born in Buenos Aires. In recent years, he has developed a career as a performance artist, producing live illustrations on stages around the world. He is currently at the Cité internationale des arts to develop a live drawing show entitled "Draw me some music: Alice through the mirror", and research on the intrinsic relationship between image and sound.

Federico Mozzi (Argentina) is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts through the programme of the Institut français.
