Cyril Duret's paintings could appear in fictions. They combine different possibilities of art history: worldly or interior portraits, sets from the 1970s where his uncle C. Jérôme appeared, sanguine and all-over, images of uncertain date and impure style, staged painting.
The painter often takes as models protagonists of the art world, or film actors that he portrays in their interiors or in culturally charged places.
His works question the personal relationship one has with art and culture and challenge the linearity and usual hierarchies of art history.
