Carla Adra

Carla Adra is an artist born in 1993 in Toronto. She lives and works in Paris. She studied arts and anthropology in France, Canada and Mexico.

Through the performative form, Carla Adra reinvents ways of being together and modes of transmission. Interested in psychoanalysis and alternative pedagogies, she proposes spaces-time for meeting and sharing: conversations, duels and participatory workshops are organized according to precise protocols. In these moments of collective work, the artist leaves all her place to the other and strives to make audible a speech often disqualified in the domestic, urban or institutional sphere.

In parallel, Carla Adra develops an intimate sculptural practice that puts in dialogue inner discourse and subterranean forms.

Her work has been awarded the Prix Prisme in 2017 and has recently been shown at the 15th Lyon Biennial, at the FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (Reims), at the Fondation d'Entreprise Ricard in Paris and soon in collaboration with the Marina Abramovic Institute in Milan, at the Centre du Livre d'Artistes in St-Yrieix-la-Perche, at the Trésor in Reims and at the Espace Niemeyer in collaboration with Jeune Création Paris. In 2019, she will join the post-graduate program of the Beaux Arts de Lyon and is currently in residency at the Cité internationale des arts (2020-2021).
