L’exposition It's great to be young présente un ensemble de tirages de différentes provenances, dont un groupe d’images inédites, découlant du travail d’archivage mené étroitement avec le photographe James Barnor, et tirées en argentique à partir des films d’origine.
L’exposition se focalise sur le travail de James Barnor comme photographe témoin et une mise en regard avec quelques images d’un autre photographe contemporain, Marc Riboud. Si les deux hommes ne se sont jamais rencontrés, ils ont œuvré sur les mêmes territoires (ici le Ghana et le Royaume- Uni), à peu de choses près aux mêmes époques. En tentant de dépasser la simple lecture que les images iconiques de ces deux maîtres – l’un du Nord, l’autre du Sud – auraient laissé dans l’Histoire de la photographie, l'exposition propose une narration ponctuée d’indices visibles et d’histoires photographiques, que James Barnor se proposera de partager.

The exhibition "It's Great To Be Young" presents an ensemble of prints of varied origins, including a selection of unseen images brought to you further to the archiving of James Barnor's archives – in collaboration with the photographer – and printed from original negatives on silver-based paper.
This exhibition focuses on the work of James Barnor as a witness photographer, and to make a careful comparison with a selection of photographs by another contemporary photographer: Marc Riboud. If both men never met, they worked in similar places (here Ghana and England) and over a similar period of time. By going beyond a simple reading of what these iconic images produced by two masters of photography – one from the North, the other from the South – would have left in the history of the medium, the exhibition offers a narrative punctuated by visible clues and photographic stories which James Barnor will share.
