A residency center never stops: it is first and foremost a place to live and work before being a place of performance. Despite the context, creation still lives at the Cité internationale des arts. We have decided to virtually knock on the doors of the artists in residence studios here in Paris and of those who have left to show that creation continues to take place.
 
A daily place for artistic creation in all its forms on a daily basis...

Ymelda Marie-Louise  

On March 24th, the Martinican-Haitian singer Ymelda Marie-louise invites us for a moment to mix traditional Haitian sacred rhythms with rock and African music influences. And all this is only a foretaste of her multiple projects on which we will come back soon: album, project of writing a musical tale for children, book, concert, documentaries... Ymelda is an artist with multiple facets!

A look back at the second rendezvous of the "Biennale di Venezia at the Cité" series with Joël Andrianomearisoa of the Madagascar Pavilion.

 

Lukas Zerbst & Reem Shadid  

Thinking of how to host an open studio during total confinement, Lukas Zerbst proposes a different departure point to share his practice and works in progress during his residency. He will be in conversation with fellow resident Reem Shadid engaging with thoughts around ‘involuntary complicity’ in artistic and exhibition practices on March 26th, from 7 to 8 pm!

On March 27th,  look back at the fourth and last rendezvous of the "Biennale di Venezia at the Cité" series with Laure Prouvost & Martha Kirszenbaum of the French Pavilion.

 

Dr. Thokozani Mhlambi 

For this March 28th, the South African composer and cellist Dr. Thokozani Mhlambi invites you on a musical journey to the coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal through his intimate work "Zulu Song Cycle".

Dialogues Afriques #1

Since November 2019, the Cité internationale des arts proposes the #DialoguesAfriques rendezvous around the theme "Performing Politics in Africa and the Diasporas".

The Committtes continue

In spite of the lockdown, the juries of the Cité internationale des arts Committees scheduled for April 2020 are still being held thanks to videoconferencing and the mobilization of jury members!

Last January, Andréya Ouamba, Congolese choreographer, presented his show "De quoi sommes-nous faits ?!", of which Cité was co-producer, at the Centre national de la danse - CN D for "CANAL fait déborder le CN D".

Today, Andréya Ouamba is working on a new project around African female figures who have carried a message of freedom and equality, like the prophetess Kimpa Vita. This time the artist is not on stage but at the setting of this project.

Dance at Cité

Dance at Cité

At the Cité internationale des arts, dance is on the program every day and in the news to come!

It is in this context that Djodjo Kazadi will be joining the Cité in the fall for a residency that will allow him to continue his projects around memory, memories of the body and tradition! 

Multidisciplinary Congolese artist, Djodjo Kazadi trained alongside Faustin Linyekula and joined the Studios Kabako Kisangani (2001-2007). In 2015, he moved to Mayotte and became artistic director of the Royaume des fleurs - Cie Kazyadance, a space for research, creation and cultural mediation.
On November 2018, he was answering questions from Mayotte la 1ère.

Koki Nakano

The pianist and composer Koki Nakano offers us the performance "Pre-Choreographed", where music and dance work hand in hand.
