2023 Residency programme for Chilean artists and curators

Chile's Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Institut français du Chili and the Cité internationale des arts are offering a residency programme for artists and curators working and living in Chile. The aim of this programme is to encourage and facilitate the international mobility of Chilean artists and curators and to expand their professional and artistic network. This residency programme is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup d'état in Chile, and invites reflection on the themes of democracy and human rights. Candidate curators and artists have been invited to develop a research project on the theme of Solidarity and Hospitality, examining the tensions and affinities between identity and difference in the social ties that characterise the contemporary world. Solidarity and hospitality are concepts that refer to ways of relating to otherness by welcoming and valuing it.

In this context, the programme invites us to rethink the relationship between welcoming and affirming otherness in relation to memory, democracy and the future.

Two three-month residencies are proposed, from November 03, 2023, to January 26, 2024: one for curators and the other for artists (visual arts, audiovisual and film, performing arts, music, writing, architecture, design and crafts).

Following a call for applications launched on 16 June 2023 and closed on 09 July 2023, a committee of qualified personalities studied all the applications and selected the two winners of the programme.
