A unique partnership to support curators and art critics

In 2020, the Cité internationale des arts and the Centre national des arts plastiques partnered to create a unique residency program to support French curators and art critics particularly affected by the consequences of the Covid-19 health crisis.
Five curators were provided with a tailor-made accompaniment, a live-in studio and a grant for six months.

The Cnap and the Cité internationale des arts share the desire to provide sustainable support to the art scene in France and have decided to continue and strengthen the program for the year 2021.

C-E-A / Association française des commissaires d’exposition, itself in residency at the Cité internationale des arts, is joining forces with the program’s partners this year to consider a specific program with the recipients.

• 1 curriculum vitae (max. 4 pages)

• 1 portfolio (between 5 and 10 pages)

• A letter in which you present the project you wish to develop during the residency and indicate how you have been impacted by the crisis and the importance that a six-month residency can have for you.

Apply as a duo / collective

With a surface area ranging from 25 to 60m2, the live-in studio are designed to combine production and daily life. They consist of a workroom, a kitchen, a bathroom and a sleeping area. A studio can accommodate up to two adults and a child up to 7 years old.

Applications for groups must be made in the following manner, depending on the case:
• the project is common: a single application on behalf of both artists
• the projects are different: two separate applications must be submitted (please indicate in the

"miscellaneous remarks" at the end of the form that you wish to share a studio and specify the name of the second applicant).

Applications for collective projects including more than two artists are exceptional due to the low number of adapted studio apartments.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, the available live-in studios do not comply without current standards in terms of accessibility for the disabled, however we are working to remedy this situation in the future. We remain at your disposal if you have any questions about accessibility at the Cité internationale des arts.

The Centre national des arts plastiques

The Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap) is one of the main operators of the Ministry of Culture’s policy in the field of contemporary visual arts. On behalf of the State, it enriches the Fonds national d’art contemporain, a national collection that it preserves and promotes through loans and deposits in France and abroad, exhibitions in partnership and publications.

With nearly 105,000 works acquired over two centuries from living artists, this collection is representative of the variety of artistic trends.

As a key cultural player, the Cnap encourages the artistic scene in all its diversity and supports artists and professionals through several support mechanisms. It encourages and supports creation in France in all areas of the visual arts: painting, performance, sculpture, photography, installation, video, multimedia, graphic arts, design, etc. It also contributes to the promotion of the projects it supports through the implementation of dissemination actions.
