The Cité internationale des arts, with the support of the Direction des affaires culturelles (DAC) of Guadeloupe, offers a residency program for artists, authors or curators residing in Guadeloupe who wish to develop a research and/or creation project in the field of visual arts, performing arts and writing. Through this call for projects, two recipients will be selected to benefit from a three- month residency in Paris.

 

Thanks to this partnership, the residents will benefit from tailor-made support, monthly meetings and individual interviews with artists and cultural professionals. It is also anchored at the heart of the life, activities and networks of the Cité internationale des arts and its 326 residents of all disciplines, generations and nationalities.

The call for applications for the 2020 edition of the Cité internationale des arts & DAC Guadeloupe program is closed. The results will be communicated from the beginning of September 2020.

 

 

The residency

The programme includes:

 

• Live-in studio provided free of charge at the Cité internationale des arts (Marais site) from October to December 2020 or from January to March 2021;

• Coverage of outward and return transport costs;

• A 800€ monthly grant to cover living expenses;

• Professional and artistic support and advice.

 

Eligibility and selection criteria

The call for applications for this residency program is intended for artists, authors or curators wishing to develop a research and/or creative project in the field of visual arts, performing arts and writing.

 

The applicant must:

• Be over 18 years old;

• Reside in Guadeloupe;

• Be engaged in professional life and show evidence of artistic practice for at least 5 years.

 

By submitting his application, the artist commits to :

• To accept the dates of residency that may be granted by the commission; • To be available throughout the residency, uninterruptedly for the duration of three months proposed;

• To comply with the general regulations;

• To participate in the various professional meetings and other meetings implemented by the Cité internationale des arts.

 

In addition to appraising each candidate’s professional background and experience, the members of the jury will pay particular attention to the artistic quality of the project, the arguments presented around the added value of the prospect of a residency in Paris, the work protocol envisaged and the contacts or partnerships already established.

 

Agenda

Application submissions:

From Monday 13th to Saturday 31 of July 2020 included (extension: Wednesday 5th of August, 2020 included).

 

Results:

The results will be announced from te beginning of Septembre 2020.

 

Beginning of the residencies:

October to December 2020 or January to March 2021 (Applicants must indicate at the time of application their preference for one of the sessions, or whether they are available for both).

How to apply

Candidates wishing to apply must fill out the specific online form.

Applicants will need a Google account to complete the application process. If you do not have a Google account, you can create one HERE.

Please note: once you have validated and sent your application it cannot be modified. For this reason, we advise you to take great care when filling out the form. No information will be given over the phone.

 

Documents to upload with your application

Before filling out the online form, please make sure you have the following documents to hand (PDF format):

 

• 1 curriculum vitae (max. 4 pages)

• 1 portfolio (between 5 and 10 pages)

• A letter in which the candidate must explain how he/she has been affected by the crisis and the benefits expected from the six-month residency. Suggested content includes the cancelation or postponement of a residency, exhibition, etc.

 

If applicable:

 

• Links to video and/or audio files with examples of your work (.mp3, .avi)

• Letters of recommendation in PDF format (max. 5 in French and/or English)

 

 

The live-in studios

The live-in studio include a furnished work and living space (living-workspace, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen).
The live-in studio located on the Marais site are also equipped with Wifi.

 

It is possible to come accompanied by an adult (+162 € per month) and/or a child under 7 years old (+119 € per month). New rates will be in force from January 2021.

 

A security deposit corresponding to the amount of the monthly benefit must be paid two months before arrival and is returned, at the end of the residence, after inventory.
Any cancellation less than one month before the planned date of the residence will give rise to the invoicing of one month’s benefits.

 

 

Accessibility

Unfortunately, the available live-in studios do not comply without current standards in terms of accessibility for the disabled, however we are working to remedy this situation in the future. We remain at your disposal if you have any questions about accessibility at the Cité internationale des arts.

 

 

The Direction des Affaires Culturelles (DAC) of Guadeloupe

The DAC of Guadeloupe is responsible for implementing, under the authority of the Prefect of Guadeloupe, the cultural policy defined by the Government. One of its missions is to support artistic creation, and to this end, it encourages mobility through residency projects for artists from the territory.

 

 

The Cité internationale des arts

The Cité internationale des arts is an artist's residency in the heart of Paris that brings together artists and allows them to implement a creation or research project in all disciplines.

 

Over periods of two months to a year, the Cité internationale des arts allows artists to work in an environment conducive to creation, open to encounters with professionals from the cultural milieu. Residents benefit from tailored support from the Cité internationale des arts team.

 

In the Marais or in Montmartre, the studio (living and creative space) from which the residents benefit allows them to cohabit with more than 300 artists and actors of the art world of all generations, all nationalities and all disciplines. In collaboration with its many partners, the Cité internationale des arts opens several thematic and/or project-based calls for applications throughout the year.
