Wednesday, August 28 2019, at 07:30 pm

Atelier 8512 - Cité internationale des arts

1st performance at 7:30 pm

2nd performance at 9pm

Vittoria Quartararo is an Italian pianist based in Cologne, Germany, who likes to present both classical repertoire and contemporary compositions in her concerts, believing that no barriers should be placed when it comes to music.

For her open studio, she invites composer Antonio Covello, already artist in residence at the Cité internationale des arts in 2018, and will present her new composition for piano Fête nocturne (2019). This piece is inspired by Antonin Artaud's poems and is also part of a larger project (Rêves, mensonges at mirages) with five original pieces composed by Antonio Covello, created by the Neumond Ensemble last July in Cologne.

It will also present two Études by Claude Debussy, the composer who, perhaps more than anyone else, threw imaginary arrows towards the future, promoting a great experimental approach to the piano more than a century ago.

This open studio will be an opportunity to explore and share "live" the essential relationship between the composer and the performer, and the complex union of two coexisting levels: musical writing as an abstract translation of ideas and the moment of musical creation.
Vittoria and Antonio will also present to the public other works resulting from their collaboration through the listening of some audio recordings.

Vittoria Quartararo (Italy) is a recipient of the Music Committee of the Cité internationale des arts.
