Sabine Jelinek’s drawing, "Der blinde Fleck liegt in der Falte (The blind spot lies in the fold), 2017” translates her original approach to the question of what lies hidden in a fold or folds. Something that is actually there, exists in the dark behind or in it, but does not always appear. But what is that? The soul? For the philosopher Leibniz, "the fold represents the abstract idea of the soul." In infinite folds in our interior, the external impressions are discarded. Everything together represents our personality, even if everything does not always stand out or can be called up.

Sabine Jelinek works increasingly with fabric that is soft and not rigid, changeable and reveals different information each time. The subjects translate her impressions of the time she spent in Paris and in France. They are interwoven with other collected subjects of the past year, freely associated, combined.

Sabine Jelinek is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts through the Austrian Federal Chancellery.
