Mehdi Yarmohammadi is a painter, sculptor, poet, born in 1979 in Iran, in Zabol. A well-known artist at home and abroad, he has exhibited many times in Tehran, Denmark and France.

A professor at the Universities of Sistan and Tehran between 2003 and 2014, he taught sculpture and painting while continuing his research on primitive art forms such as pottery found in the city of Shae e Surte, a burnt city and archaeological treasure containing many remains dating back to the Bronze Age.

In drawing as in sculpture, Mehdi explores his subject in different ways, letting the theme guide form and matter to a new way of seeing, examining society without bias, sensual dissection of the woman's body and the way we look at her.

His technique is characterized by a simplicity of form, an appropriation of negative space, a keen sense of suspension and hanging, as well as softness. This specific feature allows him to articulate social, theosophical and philosophical subjects, cosmic and metaphysical concepts.

The use of nanotechnology for the manufacture of appropriate chromatic spectra and protection against atmospheric factors are among the other specifications of his sculpture. Most of the negative space in the sculptures accompanies contemplation and allows a better view of nature.

Mehdi Yarmohammadi (Iran) is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts through the programme of the Institut français.
