Seven cities called "Cuba" exist as parallel universes, dissolved in the immense geography of the United States and extending like impossible replicas of the island where Alejandro Alonso lives.
The HOME project was built on the fragment that gives great formal and narrative value to the archival material found: images downloaded from the Internet, photographs of the appearance of these cities and virtual navigation videos made in Google Earth, all recorded in 16 mm.
HOME is the second book in a trilogy on the artist's United States. The films scattered within this great puzzle that contains the term "nation" (understood as a great hybrid capable of containing stories that blend fiction and reality) are beginning to gain momentum and attempt to capture our own reflection of the image of the other.
The first film of this series THE SON OF THE DREAM, will also be screened during this open studio.
Alejandro Alonso (Cuba), in residence at the Cité internationale des arts, is the recipient of the ON/OFF Festival prize organized in partnership with the Maison Européenne de la Photographie.
