Atelier 1441 - Cité internationale des arts
Zita Oberwalder's work focuses on borders, territories, neighbourhoods and vanishing lines. She is particularly interested in abstract subjects such as the concept of "non-places".

Using analogical photography, metaphors, (magical) realism and a little coincidence as a creative tool, she wishes to underline the fragility of the given structures of the world through themes such as current politics, (European) history and Christian mysticism.

Her works are often accompanied by quotations, diary sketches and other written documents. Her work for this open studio is part of her current project Hotel Europa.

Zita Oberwalder (Austria) is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts through the programme of the Arts and Culture Division of the Federal Chancellery of Austria.
