Mauricio Limon de Leon

Un balai gigantesque pour découvrir des récits convaincants

Atelier G1 - Site de Montmartre, Cité internationale des arts
Mauricio Limon de Leon's work consists of a group of 27 wooden masks inspired by Mexican religious festivities and carnivals that serve as a setting for a performance.

The masks are presented as sculptures that represent the stereotypes of the dominant postcolonial system and its contemporary form of representation: it is a satire about arrogance and good manners, a criticism of demagogy and inert dialogue, a parody of the excesses of the artistic world, its pretensions and the political programmes to which it is subjected.

During his residency, the artist rehearsed for a show/monologue on the object and its social implications. A satirical reflection on economic policies that promote and mask social hierarchies, exposed in artistic and cultural strategies but also forms of communication, production and consumption; such as social media, which govern the demanding construction of new identities.

Mauricio Limon de Leon (Mexico) is a recipient of the Cité internationale des arts Visual Arts Committees.
