Nour Hifaoui Fakhoury

Nour Hifaoui Fakhoury is a comic book writer and illustrator. After graduating from ALBA in 2015, she sought to immerse herself in the world of visual storytelling.

In 2017, the artist founded the Zeez collective with five illustrators through which they experiment with different forms of alternative comics. The following year, she joined Samandal Comics, a collective dedicated to the development of the art of comics for more than ten years and recipient of the Angoulême Festival's Alternative Comics Award in 2019.

Whether in comics, editorial drawing or free-form illustration, Nour Hifaoui Fakhoury seeks in her work to push the limits of expression in a country (Lebanon) where censorship is increasingly present. Faced with this, the artist feels the need to provoke through drawing and narration, uncomfortable moments for the reader to face the reality of the body and its pleasure, especially that of women. Thus, Nour Hifaoui Fakhoury deals with this broad theme through several angles, including prohibition, violence and social marginalisation. These sub-themes form the main titles of her artistic approach.

In comics, her practice is mainly focused on autofiction through committed intimist stories. This form of narration in parallel with her graphic style allows her to push realities towards exaggeration and thus accentuate them.
