Since its creation in 1965, the Cité internationale des arts has been a haven of hospitality par excellence for artists from all over the world, from all disciplines, all generations and all backgrounds. In a context of accelerating societal transformations, the foundation wishes to open up the reflection on the role of artist residencies and mobility.

The Cité internationale des arts has thus joined forces with the cultural mobility information network, On the Move, to co-organize the project entitled MobilitieS Africa / World (MobilitéS Afrique / Monde), in collaboration with the mobility fund Art Moves Africa.

This get-together on September 30, open to all, will close a cycle of online sessions that took place on May 4th and July 6th, 2021 and that brought together, in working groups, more than 100 cultural professionals (directors of venues, structures, mobility funders, activists, etc.) and artists from more than 30 African countries with partners from Europe and North America.

It aims to share the key points of the discussions, notably around the role of residency venues on the issues of mobility within and in relation to the African continent. The idea of a call for a more just and inclusive mobility, particularly in the context of the pandemic and beyond, will also be introduced for discussion and follow-up.

Talks moderated by Ayoko Mensah (Bozar, Belgium) with on-site and online interventions by Jean-Sylvain Tshilumba Mukendi (Picha / Lubumbashi Biennale, Belgium / Democratic Republic of Congo), Ukhona Ntsali Mlandu (Greatmore Studios, South Africa), Pierre Claver Mabiala (Réseau Arterial, Congo-Brazzaville), François Bouda (Sankhof'Arts Productions, Burkina Faso), Carole Karemera (Ishyo Arts Centre, Rwanda), Ammar Kessab (Trans-saharan Mobility fund, Algeria) and Jean-Christophe Lanquetin (Scu2 collective, France). Two artists in residency at the Cité internationale des arts, Lina Attalah (Egypt) and Noella Wiyaala (Ghana) will also be associated with the conversation.
