Liviu Bulea is a Romanian artist born in 1989. He studied at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, where, for his BA and MA, he conducted artistic research on the diseased body, focusing on memories of spaces and objects from oncology wards.

His area of research extends from urban memory to his involvement with the queer community. He is a collector and collects stories, and memories of the places and people around him. He can be considered “a social practice installation artist”. Liviu Bulea recovers seemingly useless material fragments originating from precise contexts: a wall from the hospital where he was treated for cancer, the sidewalk of the city he grew up in, and pieces of concrete from a mall built on top of a community.

Among others, he has exhibited his works at the Urban Nation Museum, Berlin; the Romanian Cultural Institut, Berlin; the French Cultural Institut, Cluj; the National Art Museum, Cluj; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest; the Mumok, Vienna; Parallel, Vienna; the Bucharest Biennale, among others, and has been hosted as a resident artist by Kultur Kontakt, Vienna; Styria Art in Residency, Graz; Urban Nation, Berlin.
