Within the framework of the Clairière d’Eza Boto, several artists from the African continent were invited to explore the River Seine from Le Havre to Rouen.
Inspired by realism in fiction, this river residency was an invitation to crisscross this part of the country, to go and meet the unknown and above all a public not used to the different aesthetics of contemporary art. A new perspective of what an artist’s studio could be, the River Seine constitutes a sublime theatre that encourages leisurely artistic wanderings à la Baudelaire. Setting off to (re)conquer this area and its inhabitants contributes to creating a shared dynamic that improves the transmission of ideas.
This river journey brought together artists, curators and stakeholders in contemporary creation around the ideas first considered in the work of Mongo Beti. At the end of this experience, the results are being presented in various art centre that are partners of Rouen Metropole and at the Cité internationale des arts. Curated by Yves Chatap, this event will take the form of a journey between five studios with six artists in residency and guests.
