The German-Indian pianist Jarry Singla has always been a border-crosser between the most diverse musical worlds. Although he was trained in jazz, he has always shown himself to be a free and curious spirit in his compositions. This results in hybrids between jazz, experimental art and folk tradition, in which Singla willingly seeks out encounters with musicians of a completely different nature.
Inspired by the gracefulness of Bolivian Caporal dances, the pulsating life energy of Indian cities, the vastness of the Andean mountains and the spiritual charisma of Hindustani ragas, Singla creates filigree sound structures in which composed and improvised passages merge into each other like light clouds.
His solo concert at the Goethe-Institut will also include duet compositions with harmonica player Olivier Ker Ourio - an internationally renowned Parisian musician from Reunion Island. Jarry and Olivier met in 2003 in Monterrey, Mexico. Since then, the two have been linked by a musical friendship.
