Pusha Petrov

Ex-East, past and recent stories of the Romanian Avant-Garde

from 05 February to 16 March 2019

Espace Niemeyer

The exhibition Ex-East, past and recent stories of the Romanian Avant-Garde will be open to the public from 5 February to 16 March 2019 at the headquarters of the Communist Party, an exceptional building designed by the Brazilian modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer.

This exhibition highlights the essential role of 20th century Romanian artists and the undeniable contribution of the new generations and their ways of relating to the present. From Constantin Brâncuşi to Geta Brătescu, from Tristan Tzara to Adrian Ghenie and from Victor Brauner to Ana Lupaș, a new series of emblematic works will be presented in a highly symbolic place.

Pusha Petrov is one of the artists selected for this exhibition: she uses the photographic image wisely, skillfully observing the intimacy of people and highlighting the details of their daily existence and their specific attitudes that lead to preserving the uniqueness of each person. By taking photos of objects or inhabited spaces, she symbolically shows the ordinary context of people, offering a sociological and aesthetic interpretation of lifestyles.

Pusha Petrov (Romania) is a recipient of Cité internationale des arts Visual Arts Committees.
