Barbara Breitenfellner's collages, silkscreens and installations focus on the production of images and atmospheres inspired by her nocturnal notes recording her dreams. But, rather than using a classical psychoanalytical approach to this material, the artist is interested in the (re)construction of the dream between figuration and abstraction, formal reduction and erotic suggestion, institutional criticism and conceptual irony.
For nearly twenty years Barbara Breitenfellner has been recording in a newspaper her dreams related to art, texts that she then materializes in her installations. These brief descriptions serve as both a title and instructions for the production of the works. She then uses these protocols to create often absurd or ironic representations of the practice of art, the rituals of the exhibition, but also the daily life of the artist.
