La Cinémathèque française

Created in 1962 on the initiative of the French Union of Film Critics, the Semaine de la critique, a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, is dedicated to discovering new talent by presenting their first and second feature films on the international scene. Famous directors such as Jacques Audiard and Arnaud Desplechin were revealed by the Semaine de la critique. This event unveils each year on the Croisette its very selective program of 10 short and 10 feature films. The selection committees, made up of critics who are members of the French Union of Film Critics, introduce the general public and professionals to the singular universes of young international authors.

On the occasion of the 2020 edition of La Semaine de la Critique, discover the selected film Sous le ciel d'Alice (2020, 90') by Chloé Mazlo at the Cinémathèque française.

In the 1950s, Alice (Alba Rohrwacher) leaves her native Switzerland for the sunny shores of Beirut and falls in love with Joseph (Wajdi Mouawad), an eccentric astrophysicist who dreams of sending the first Lebanese man into space. Alice finds her place in Joseph's family, but civil war soon threatens her Eden.

Chloé Mazlo (France/Lebanon) is recipient of the Cité internationale des arts Writtings Committee.
