Biennale of dance in Africa 2020 - À qui le tour ?

Led by a pan-African artistic committee, the Biennale of dance in Africa 2020 presents the state of the art of choreography on the continent.

This international event will also be an opportunity to pay a vibrant tribute to the pioneers of dance on the continent. The anchoring of the Biennale of dance in the city of Marrakech will be reinforced by film screenings retracing the history of dance in Africa, and by the presence of artistic performances in public spaces, a major component of the "On March" festival.

As part of this biennial for the stage Africa Simply the Best (Serge Aimé Coulibaly's choreographic competition for which she won the Acogny d'argent prize in 2019), Agathe Djokam Tamo presents her project À qui le tour?

À qui le tour ? is a dance piece that questions the body and mind of each individual facing the loss of a loved one. Exploring the different stages of grief, Agathe Djokam Tamo moves from shock to anger, from memory to depression, before moving on to acceptance and rebirth. In this performance dedicated to her missing father and sister, the choreographer and dancer tries to share her pain but also to confront us with our own anxieties.

The dance is enriched with text, music and some simple elements such as wood ash, which are enough to invoke the past. Making mourning a primarily physical experience, Agathe Djokam Tamo speaks to us about a universal subject.

Agathe Djokam Tamo (Cameroon) is a recipient of the TRAME programme of the Cité internationale des arts.
