The Fonds d'Art Contemporain – Paris Collections is an art collection that complements the works on show in the museums of Paris, in addition to having its own unique vocation: to go beyond its walls and meet the public, reaching out to a diverse audience across the Parisian region. The collection currently comprises 23,000 works of art, including more than 3,500 contemporary creations.
As part of this vocation, this year the “Fonds” has established partnerships with some forty Parisian venues that receive visitors on a daily basis. These partnerships will allow it to present contemporary artworks in all media – painting, sculpture, photography, graphic arts, video and installations.
Whether or not discovering a work of art is something new and unexpected, the desire behind this project is to bring the general public face to face with works from the collection of the Fonds d'Art Contemporain – Paris Collections, to create surprises and develop awareness of this shared heritage.
In line with its mission to support artists, the Cité internationale des arts is keen to promote the careers of its former artists in residence, for whom the residency was a uniquely advantageous moment in their career. Thanks to this partnership, the Cité internationale des arts is presenting two works by former residents: Jean-Alain Corre (France, a resident in 2014) and Evangelia Kranioti (Greece, a resident in 2008).
The Cité internationale des arts is a residency center that brings together artists of every discipline on its sites in the Marais and Montmartre, allowing them to work on creative and research projects in the heart of Paris.
More than 300 artists come to the Cité internationale des arts every month. During residencies lasting between two months and a year, they work in an environment that is conducive to creation, benefit from contacts with arts and culture professionals and receive personalized support from the Cité internationale des arts team.
