“No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture. An order from a superior officer or a public authority may not be invoked as a justification of torture.”

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, articles 2.2 and 2.3

Concerned by the indifference and passivity shown by the international community and governments to the situation of victims and violence in the world, particularly in Africa, Jean David Nkot (Cameroon) structures his artistic approach around "words", which he questions and confronts with the "evils" of mankind.

His epistolary paintings, whose dimensions prevent from being hidden in a mailbox or amongst a bundle of letters, cannot go unnoticed. Jean David Nkot wants to raise public awareness of the commitment that more than 164 States have made to the founding texts drafted by the United Nations in 1984 and which remain no more than an idol with feet of clay.
