In Climate Sensor, Laure Winants presents an element of the device used in the ALBEDO project. Focusing on natural elements, this research project proposes an experimental photographic study of the traces that climatic fluctuations and dynamics draw on Earth and matter. To detect these markers of change, Laure Winants has surrounded herself with a multidisciplinary team whose approach is centred on climatology and their measurement tools: Field forecasting, Data and Sensing Instrumentation.
The piece Climate Sensor is an inventory of material. It shows, in the form of samples, the various traces of climatic fluctuations collected in situ, as well as the particles present in the atmosphere, such as volcanic dust, the sand from the Sahara, the phenomenon of pink algae, microplastics and black carbon.
This piece results from a study carried out in collaboration with résidence 1+2, CNRS Toulouse, Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées, and Háskóli Íslands / University of Iceland.
Laure Winants (Belgium, 1991) is in residency through the "Institut BEI x Cité internationale des arts" programme.
