Atelier Ndokette is a collective of artists (Safi Niang, Souleymane Bachir Diaw and Ibrahima Ndome) whose transdisciplinary approach is at the crossroads of photography, textile and installation art.

After a photo series entitled Ndokette Session (2019-2020) in which the collective explored, crossing multiple zones and regions, the function and history of the Ndokette dress, they continued their explorations of various techniques such as weaving or dyeing. As a result, the collective got to know artisans and developed an interest in a special hand-woven cotton fabric.

In And Session, this white fabric called rabbal in Wolof or leepi in Pulaar becomes a surface on which to write, a blank page ready to welcome the nostalgic and utopian stories and emotions of this artist trio.

Ibrahima Ndome (Senegal) is recipient of the ellipse 2021 Prize. Thanks to the partnership between ellipse art projects and the Cité internationale des arts, he has been able to benefit from a three-month residency and an exhibition with the collective during the Also Known As Africa (AKAA) art fair in November 2021.
