As a classical and improvising pianist, John Kamfonas performs a program of solo piano music that brings together influences from various improvised styles of Eastern and Western traditions. On stage, he will interpret improvised pieces by composers Alan Hovhaness, Mános Hadjidakis, Frédéric Chopin, Johann Sebastian Bach & Ferruccio Busoni. John Kamfonas will also perform his own free improvisations inspired by the music performed during the concert.
This program follows the artist’s residence project at the Cité internationale des arts which involves an examination of improvised influences in the western piano music of the 19th and 20th centuries.
John Kamfonas (United States) is a recipient of the Cité internationale des arts’ Music committee.
