Curated by Émilie Goudal and Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez.
This exhibition, whose title borrows the words of Assia Djebar, is a compilation of works, images and archives produced in connection with the decolonization movement and feminist struggles rooted in Algeria - like so many echoes, fragments and voices of emancipation still in progress.
Algeria, this historically and geographically situated place, is therefore not understood in terms of its national borders, but rather as an epistemological and critical engine capable of revealing the echoes that vibrate at the heart of our visual history. "Ces voix qui m'assiègent..." will appear at the Cité internationale des Arts in conjunction with "Présences arabes. Art moderne et décolonisation. Paris 1908-1988" presented at the Musée d'Art moderne de la ville de Paris in spring 2024, curated by Odile Burluraux and Zamân Books & Curating. Taking part in a particular moment of decolonization of modern and contemporary art, Ces voix... is intended as a platform for subjectivities linked to African independence and the decolonization of Algerian territory, inexorably intertwined with the polyphony of feminist struggles.

In four chapters, projects by Algerian, French, Guadeloupean, Palestinian, Serbian, Senegalese, Lebanese, Ecuadorian and American artists - many of whom are former or current residents of the Cité internationale des arts - will be placed in dialogue. From the tutelary figures of the multifaceted Djamila(s), to the resurgence of Frantz Fanon and the convergence of transnational solidarities, to the echoes of resistance from yesterday to today, "Ces voix qui m'assiègent..." invites the public to traverse a constellation of paintings, sculptures, installations, videos, films, posters and archives.
