The Cité internationale des arts and Bakehouse Art Complex, Bakehouse Art Complex, one of the oldest and largest artist-serving organizations in Miami, have partnered to provide a Bakehouse artist, selected through a juried process, an exceptional professional and creative development opportunity at the Cité internationale des arts.

The two-month residency program at the Cité internationale des arts will allow the selected artist to work in an environment conducive to creation and open to meetings with professionals from the cultural milieu. Residents benefit from customized support from the Cité internationale des arts’ team and access to the depth and diversity of Paris’s museums and other cultural resources and assets. Through this residency, Bakehouse will provide one of its artists with exposure to a diversity of artists from around the world, and the opportunity to make life-long connections that will meaningfully impact their artistic practice.

“The Cité internationale des arts is honored to welcome artists from Bakehouse Art Complex to join the over 1200 artists who come in residence at the Cité each year. We are excited about this new partnership and look forward to the creative exchanges and professional opportunities a residence at the Cité can offer to Bakehouse artists.” – Bénédicte Alliot, Director General of the Cité internationale des arts.

“Bakehouse is delighted to establish this exchange, the first such partnership for our organization. We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to one of our artists. We also look forward to what our institution can learn from this prestigious affiliation with the Cité internationale des arts, as we envision and plan the future development of our campus and the evolution of our organization and program.” – Cathy Leff, Executive Director of Bakehouse Art Complex.

Bakehouse Art Complex

Bakehouse Art Complex is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to address the need for affordable live, live-work, and workspaces for artists in Miami’s urban core. Comprising approximately 100 Miami-based, creative practitioners from diverse backgrounds, our campus in Wynwood Norte serves as their working home, providing space to develop their practice and build community. It is the largest artist studio complex in Miami and houses more than 60 studios of varying sizes, two galleries, a classroom, a print room, a darkroom, ceramics facilities and kilns, and woodworking and welding areas.

Over the next five years, Bakehouse will renovate its former bakery building and add affordable housing for artists and community members, and new cultural spaces to its underutilized 2.3-acre campus.

Bakehouse Art Complex receives critical support from the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture; the Wille Family Foundation; John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; and Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation.

The Cité internationale des arts

The Cité internationale des arts is an artist residency that brings together artists in the heart of Paris and allows them to implement a creative or research project in all disciplines.

From two months to a year, the Cité internationale des arts allows artists to work in a favourable environment for artistic creation, and to meet cultural professionals. The team of the Cité internationale des arts provides residents with individual support.

In the Marais or in Montmartre, the live-in studios (spaces for living and creating) allow residents to cohabit with more than 300 artists and art professionals of all generations, nationalities, and disciplines. In collaboration with its many partners, the Cité internationale des arts opens several calls for applications on specific themes and projects throughout the year.
