The call for applications for the 2023 edition of the "PICTO LAB / EXPERIMENTING WITH IMAGES" program is closed.
The results will be announced in mid-March 2023.

PICTO LAB is a residency programme that offers each year to an artist to benefit from an accompaniment to experimentation and creation during three months (May-June-July) in Paris within the network of laboratories and production workshops of PICTO.

For the PICTO LAB programme, various partners accompany and help publicize the work carried out by the artist in residence: the Picto Foundation, La Fab. - agnès b. endowment fund, the Dream Big and Grow Fast Foundation, the a ppro che salon, and the Cité internationale des arts.

PICTO LAB wishes to facilitate the development of a new project, by giving a photographer the possibility to test techniques and protocols, to exploit them in unexpected ways in order to go beyond or explore new possible fields of the image and its formal rendering. PICTO LAB is also a space for the photographer to meet and establish relationships with professionals who may contribute to the evolution of his/her work or interact with the project that is the object of the residency.

Eligibility and selection criteria

• The PICTO LAB residency is aimed at photographers who have been working for at least two years. It is specified that the jury will be particularly sensitive to applications for which such an opportunity could constitute a real springboard in their career.

• The partners will encourage the support of a photographer who has not yet been able to find the means of experimentation, production, and distribution for the project that is the subject of the application.

• The photographer must be presented by an art center, an institution, or a gallery that undertakes to present in an exhibition or installation the work produced by the resident within one calendar year of the completion of the PICTO LAB residency. In this residency programme it is a question of initiating or prolonging a dialogue around a project in the making and which finds thanks to this programme the conditions of experimentation and production. This restitution by the organization sponsoring the application can only be done after the exhibition, or in agreement with the latter for any other date envisaged.

Picto Foundation

Since its creation in 1950 by Pierre Gassmann, the PICTO laboratory has been committed to supporting and accompanying photographers in their projects and the evolution of their practices. Founded in 2016, PICTO FOUNDATION, PICTO's endowment fund, continues this historical commitment.

Focused on the experimentation of the image, its programming aims to encourage initiatives and creative projects in which the methods of conception and restitution of the image are at the heart of the device.

Whether it is a question of re-appropriating old processes, experimenting with digital tools or new media, or digital innovations in image processing, PICTO FOUNDATION wants to accompany photographers in their contemporary explorations of the image.
